Learn More About Addiction
About 8% of California residents are living with addiction to drugs and alcohol, including many residents of Los Angeles. While it can be difficult to reach out for alcohol and drug treatment, doing so is necessary for lasting recovery. There are many Garden Grove drug rehab treatments available in the Los Angeles area, including medical detox, inpatient care, outpatient treatment, intensive outpatient services, partial hospitalization programming, and sober living services.
How We Heal
Medical detox is the first step toward recovery for many people who are living with addiction. People who are addicted to benzodiazepines, opiates, and alcohol may experience dangerous detox side effects that can lead to death. People who are addicted to other substances can experience withdrawal symptoms that can make it difficult to stay strong and get sober. Medical detox can help to mitigate these symptoms, helping people living with addiction to build a strong foundation for their recovery.
It can be difficult to break habits related to addiction, and treatment at a residential facility can help. During residential treatment, patients live at the treatment facility. Residing at the treatment facility makes it impossible to access drugs or alcohol, which can be an important comfort to people who are just beginning their sobriety. During residential treatments, patients experience both group and individual therapy, as well as other forms of treatment that help them develop the behaviors necessary for long-term wellness.
A partial hospitalization program, or PHP, offers many of the benefits of inpatient drug and alcohol treatment without requiring patients to stay at the hospital overnight. PHP can be a good fit for patients who need to attend to family responsibilities in the evening but are still looking for a full-day treatment program. During PHP, patients get to know one another well through group therapy, and often form bonds with one another that help them realize they aren’t alone in their battle with addiction.
Another option for patients who cannot or do not want to try inpatient treatment, an intensive outpatient program (IOP) provides treatment without a residence requirement. This type of treatment is less intense than partial hospitalization treatment or inpatient care. During IOP, patients attend sessions with a counselor during the day and return home to sleep at night. Patients may attend group therapy as well as individual therapy. IOP allows patients to take the skills they learn in treatment and put them into practice in real life immediately.
The least intensive form of treatment, standard outpatient treatment offers patients the flexibility to live their day-to-day lives while also working on their sobriety. Some patients transition to outpatient treatment after completing other forms of treatment, while others work through outpatient treatment the entire time they’re receiving addiction care. Outpatient treatment sessions occur as often as needed by the patient. Some patients receive treatment a few times a week, while others receive treatment a few times each month.
Sober living is often the final step before addiction treatment patients return to day-to-day life. During sober living, patients reside in a facility with other people who are in the beginning stages of their sobriety. Patients attend counseling sessions and receive ongoing support to help them stay strong as they adjust to daily life without drugs and alcohol. For many people, sober living provides the support necessary to manage the pressures of day-to-day life while also staying sober.
